Cochran Family Gingerbread House - FAIL!
Last year, the girls and I made a gingerbread house from a kit I bought at ALDI. This year, I thought we would continue the tradition and got a kit from Michaels. Apparently, the Michaels one is not intended for "beginners" like us. Or maybe we were just too impatient to let the icing harden before starting to decorate. In any case, the family gingerbread house is now in pieces in the trash can. I will look for my trusty, no-brainer kit at ALDI sometime this week.
The girls get to lick the beaters from the icing I mixed.
The directions said it might be a good idea to put heavy cans around the house while it dried. You are supposed to let the base dry for an hour before putting the roof on, then let it dry for another 2-3 hours before decorating. No thanks! We started the project after dinner and I wanted it finished before bath time! I should have known things weren't going to end well.
Uh-oh! One of the side walls caved in. I was ready to trash the whole thing then and there, but Allan suggested just letting the girls decorate it anyway and throwing it away later.
The girls happily decorating the roof oblivious to the fact that their hard work would soon join the orange peels and coffee grinds in trash can heaven.
Daddy always finds his way into a picture :)
Notice the juice box in front of Harper? Allan was headed to a friend's house to watch football for a guys' night at 7:30. Thus, he didn't see the problem in giving them more sugar even though they had already consumed a disgusting amount of icing and gum drops during the decorating process. Thanks, Hon! Don't be mad if they are still awake when you get home :)

That's hilarious...I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis totally would have happened to us!!! At least you're making memories - you (and the girls) will definitely remember the Gingerbread house that didn't make it. :-)
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Love the new family picture!
