Thanksgiving Break

Because of Ken's work schedule, we hosted our family Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, November 23.  It was fun and yummy like always, but I didn't take any pictures.

On the day before Thanksgiving, we got 2-3 inches of good snow.  It didn't start until later in the day, so it was dark by the time there was enough to go play in.  The kids did all of the hard work rolling the big pieces of the snowmen and Daddy and Richard lifted them on top of each other.

After playing in the snow, we came in to have hot chocolate and watch our favorite Christmas movie.  Actually, I should say the girls and my favorite Christmas movie.  Allan had a hard time sitting through it because it is a "singalong" (his word for musical).

Also, over break Honey and Grandpa got a new king size bed which meant that their queen went into their quest room and the guest room full bed got passed on to Harper!  She wasn't sure about switching at first, but quickly warmed up to the idea when she saw how tall it was.  She can touch the ceiling when standing on her new bed now!  The best part is that she and Delaney can now have sleepovers in Harper's room, not just Delaney's.

Our Thanksgiving Day was very nontraditional.  We did start the day off by watching the Macy's parade, then we met my parents, Allan's parents, and Jake at Cracker Barrel at 11:00.  We should have met earlier since everyone ordered breakfast anyway and we could have avoided the 30 minute wait.  In the afternoon, the girls had Emma and Sami over to play.  They had stayed home and had a quiet day as well.  At 4:30, we went to mom and Ed's to have some leftover BBQ pork steaks, pumpkin pie, and pineapple upside down cake with Jake and mom's friend Wanda.  Finally, Allan wanted to look at some dress pants for work, so we went to Kohls at 6:00 with the rest of the crazies looking for deals.  He found some that he liked, but the line was crazy long, so we just went home and ordered them online.

The day after Thanksgiving, our neighbor Richard helped all of the neighbors put their lights up with his bucket truck.  It was really cool and safe since the roofs were snowy, but it actually took more time than just climbing on the roof.  Allan had fun, I think :)
While the Dads were working on the lights, the girls were being archaeologists and breaking apart the pieces of the snowman that had already toppled over.

I love this picture of the guys just standing around watching each other in the bucket.

We decided to have yet another party (our third in a week!) because most of the neighbors didn't have any plans Friday night.  We ordered pizza from Joe's, the guys played poker in the kitchen, the kids ransacked the basement, and the mom's were happy to sit in peace and chat in the dining room.

Funny story - when we got home from church Saturday night, we noticed that someone (Richaaaaard!!) had gotten back in the cherry-picker and replaced our very top bulb with a red one so it looked like Rudolph.  He is always such a prankster!
