May Carousel

Tonight Delaney, my Mom, and I went to watch my niece Ann in May Carousel. It's been a tradition at Granite City High School for over 80 years. The senior girls wear their prom dresses and get recognized. There is a court and a May Queen. The dance team, color guard, and cheerleaders all perform for the girls. Also, there is a Senior Dance and the traditional Maypole Dance. Being at GCHS and seeing Ann participate in all her senior activities really brings back a lot of memories. My senior year was such a happy and carefree time!

Delaney and Claire were dressed similar in their green tunics and striped leggings.

My best friends, Deb and Ness, were there with their girls. The last time I was at a May Carousel (15 years ago!) was to watch Ness.

Ann is in the bright orange dress. She got to sit in the front row because she was one of the girls chosen to do the Maypole Dance (not to be confused with "pole" dancing :)

I love her dress!

I was out of town for Ann's prom, so here are a couple close-up pictures of her dress. It was in two pieces. The long, flowy skirt came off to reveal a shorter dress underneath. So cool!

The bottom was so poofy it stood up on its own!

  3. Oh, and we took Carter to May Carousel to see Melissa Smith in 1998...I can't believe you forgot about that! Ironically, Scott was on May Court that year :)
