Allan saw an eagle watching event advertised for this weekend and since it was so close to us and a sunny day, we decided to try it out. There was a much bigger crowd than I expected and it was so cold out in the middle of the Chain of Rocks Bridge when the wind was whipping, but overall we had fun! They had different viewing stations set up, which was a good thing since we forgot our binoculars! We saw a total of 6 eagles.
Allan was intrigued by the beach below the base of the bridge. After a quick lunch, we drove down to it. In all my years of living in Granite City I had never been to the low water dam. (I think that's what they call it.) We climbed and explored for about an hour - so fun! I felt like I was a tourist on vacation. We definitely would like to try to go back in the summer.
